hello everyone
so, since the release of FH6 alot of us cammus owners have had issues. iv been testing the game across 3 test systems, an MSI claw 8ai full intel, a 7600x/9070 pc and a 9800x3d/5090 pc.
So, initially using the cammus FH5/6 helper app caused alot of frame drops in and around tokyo and the motorways/highways, id assumed incorrectly that the source of the problem was the cammus helper app, it is 100% the game. the issue is occurring for multiple wheel manufacturers, anything over 3 inputs (so pedals/shifter/handbrake/wheel) makes the game rather unstable when the CPU is being forced to work. Its also effecting bluetooth devices like controllers, its not limited to the wheel. the stutters will occur during high speed driving through tokyo and the motorwayhs, no major issues with frame times and drops out of those areas however every speedzone/drift zone things like that will give a brief frametime spike when information is displayed on the screen about your speed/score.
Now, there are things we can do to minimize the issue, it wont fully go away but can be made alot better.
1st off disable any DVR settings in wondows gaming/steam.
next use something like riva tuner to limit frames to your desired FPS limit.
next enable vsync in your nvidia/amd/intel arc app.
next go into game settings, turn off vsync and unlock the frame rate, there is a bug with both vsync and frame rate limiter within the game settings.
OK, so, on 5090 i can run maximum settings with zero frame drops using a wired controller, it also ran fine when i had no FFB but could use the wheel to steer. My issues started when a gear shifter was added and the FFB was enabled.
So, we know the FFB CPU thread is causimng trouble, we need to reduce the load on the CPU when cars are being commanded to spawn, even though the 5090 can easily run maximum settings along with the CPU, once FFB is in the mix things go wrong fast. reducing car model settings and car reflection settings will see a huge bump in performance as the CPU has alot less calculations to make when the cars are commanded to spawn. you can lower other settings that tax the CPU aswell but dont lose too much graphical goodies as we have to tread a line between performance and stability on the whole map, not just tokyo or the highways.
now, there is another thing we can do that im currently investigating, its far from ideal and is a bug within the game, but there is a way to remove almost all AI traffic on the map, im not too sure how to manifest the bug yet, but i suspect the game will run very smooth if the AI traffic disappeared.
Id like to apologisse to Cammus for my assumption that the FH5/6 helper app was the issue, its the game, 100%. I hope the above helps some people out and ill continue to search for a better fix and report back here.
